Can music empower?
What do YOU think? Has music helped you in your life?
28th May
Hello!
It is glorious weather in my part of England - hoping you are enjoying whatever is coming your way?
Last week I was discussing my own experiences of music being a healing force and during the week I kept thinking more about it…it’s not just the words and the language of music itself that has been so powerfully transformative for me.
It’s also the physicality of creating music - specially singing.
The physical act of singing - the breath - the drawing up of something that isn’t obvious and manifest already - the act of creation itself. Those are so important for me too. So it’s powerful on many levels as well as creating that deep connection between us…
When you hear something and think ‘Oh! That’s EXACTLY how I feel’ or ‘I am so glad I am not the only one!’
Is that your experience?
I do really believe music can inform and transform. I have used it to explore share and transform difficult experiences into something beautiful that touches other people. My favourite moments are when someone reaches out to me and tells me how much my work has meant for them. Thank you for that. It means the world to me.
I DO this work to heal and empower myself and it’s glorious when it touches someone else’s soul.
In other news!
I am writing this on the train to London to meet and rehearse with the incredible tabla maestro Sukhdeep Dhanjal. I will have much to share with you soon!
